Interview with Stanislas Husson
Stanislas Husson
I’ve worked in the refurbished IT equipment industry since 2008, mainly as co-founder of SMEs. Over the years I’ve seen the various stakeholders in this market evolve and mature, including the refurbishing companies, the large companies that use the equipment, as well as local and national government. The trend for buying refurbished products, which was for a long time driven by demand from individual consumers, has now been adopted by companies and public authorities.
Econocom Factory: ecological commitment and social inclusion
Econocom Factory, a subsidiary of Econocom, offers companies effective, responsible digital solutions. As a refurbished IT and mobile device specialist, it optimizes the lifecycle of professional IT equipment, thereby reducing its carbon footprint.
An expert in IT Asset Disposition (ITAD), it provides companies with high-quality refurbished equipment, while limiting electronic waste and protecting the environment.
It applies a circular economy model, which includes no less than 60 quality control points at its factory in France, thus guaranteeing reliable, sustainable products. As a “Company with a Mission” since 2021 and recognized as a Social and Responsible Economic player in 2023, Econocom Factory is actively committed to the ecological transition. It has ISO 14001, “Service France Garanti”, “Qualicert SGS Reconditionné” and “RECQ Reconditionné de Qualité” certifications, and has been awarded the EcoVadis gold medal and the QualiRépar label.
By refurbishing each device, it also creates opportunities for people who have had difficulties entering the job market, thereby promoting social inclusion.
Econocom Factory is dedicated to promoting sustainable, accessible electronic equipment and addressing companies’ growing demand for environmentally responsible solutions.
The future of Econocom Factory
Econocom Factory needs to develop within the Econocom galaxy: it needs to build up its sales teams and its clients in the large company sector. But it also needs to target the small and mid-sized market, which is increasingly in need of technical and quality support for negotiating the transition to refurbished products.
We aim to offer the various benefits of lifecycle management as a specific area of expertise:
Economic performance
Freedom from regulatory and technical restrictions
The positive impacts of refurbishment
Econocom Factory needs to develop its know-how and offer more and more services and address clients’ needs more quickly and effectively in order to achieve the B2B standards of new products.
Refurbished devices: breaking down barriers to speed up the sustainable transformation
The industry is now so mature that there are far fewer psychological obstacles to using refurbished equipment. Government incentives and the habits of individual consumers offer potential growth opportunities, and it’s now up to us, the refurbishing companies, to take advantage of these opportunities to ensure that every step of the acquisition process is a success.
There are still however some obstacles in terms of training and support for users when purchasing refurbished devices:
- We need to give decision-makers and users more transparency, quality and information to facilitate this transformation of the purchasing process.
- Improve quality standards across the industry by offering a full range of services (long warranties, tailored set-up, next-day replacement, asset management, etc.).

At Econocom Factory, we firmly believe that you can be cost-effective, environmentally and socially responsible, while addressing companies’ needs.
From an economic perspective, it’s a no-brainer: our refurbished equipment costs up to 70% less than new. So for CIOs trying to optimize their budget, it’s a fantastic opportunity. For example, for a fleet of 500 devices, that means cost savings of tens of thousands of euros.
Around 50% savings for a real estate company
Recently, a real estate company with over 5000 employees opted to buy refurbished devices to replace its fleet for 500 employees: it asked Econocom to provide 500 DELL Latitude 5590 laptops with 8th-generation processors. We optimized the package by upgrading the products with 16GB of RAM, 512 GB HDD, Windows 11 and a 24-month warranty. The client has already started using the equipment and paid 50% less than they would have for a brand-new equivalent configuration. The client is very satisfied with the deal from a financial, operational and sustainable standpoint and we’re currently working on a new order for 500 more devices for the next phase of deployment.
Decarbonizing digital
In terms of the environmental impact of refurbishment, 80% of the carbon footprint of equipment is generated by manufacturing. So extending the lifespan of devices by refurbishing them reduces CO2 emissions and thus contributes directly to decarbonizing digital. We have refurbished devices to suit the technological needs of professional and personal use alike. And as we use short circuits, we also limit the transport carbon footprint, so it’s a comprehensive, consistent, responsible approach.
Social impact: the cornerstone of our project
We nurture talents while addressing major societal challenges.
jobs created for vulnerable people who have difficulty entering the job market

The impact of AI on the refurbishment industry
At the moment, AI helps us save time – whatever the sector – allowing us to focus on the quality aspect of our business. AI model training can be very useful for processing IT asset data, for example, which could prove valuable for helping and advising clients in their choice of equipment.
Boldness: a catalyst for creativity and transformation
To quickly achieve a responsible economy, boldness is the value claimed by Econocom that is the most useful, because without boldness there is neither creativity nor ambition, and without creativity there is no development for the company.
Boldness makes it possible to :
- Choose a mode of consumption that’s not actively encouraged by manufacturers.
- Use channels that aren’t yet standardized because they’re new.
- Break ground in an industry where no other player has succeeded in providing distribution and services on such a scale.
